TRANSITION TO DIGITAL AND HIGH DEFINITION TECHNOLOGIES

Situation

Building a new radio facility is a great deal, but moving, expanding and building into an existing operation in working facilities, broadcasting and pretend to keep broadcast capability of the radio station during the job is quite challenging. After the evaluation of several bidders, the project was awarded to d(sign)age. Our team was ready to catch up the timeline and that was why we were appointed to integrate and rebuild WIPR AM & FM Radio. The complexity, the local support and d(sign)age's extensive experience in broadcast systems made us became the contender between all the pretenders.

Solution

Construction was on sketch. Top-of-the-line components were chosen for reliability, durability and upgrade-ability, from d(sign)age's valued vendor partner, Harris, and other high-end manufacturers. They picked up system automation to increased capacity, added efficiency, streamlined the production-to-transmission process, and reduced errors.

Results

WIPR remains at the forefront of programming and technology, honoring its commitment to provide better and excellent content. Three production studios, an AM Control, FM Control and reliable control room made WIPR the # 1 radio facility in Puerto Rico. Their engineers saw a vast improvement in technical performance, and, again, remained on the air without interruption, providing news, entertainment and local productions. WIPR radio facilities consist of four control rooms, two production studios and four news editing bays that accommodated all on-air programming and production. This project converts WIPR's facilities and technology to a state of the art digital facility.

The studios floor plan configuration consists of:

One production facility for each radio station

One control room for each facility

One shared talk studio

One large talk studio to be used for anything up to full blown novellas

Four editing workstations

In addition, there is a Technical Center where all central racks are located. This area is the heart of the facility. All trunk lines and interconnecting cables terminate in this room. All servers related to broadcast operation are housed in the technical center as well.
